PETALING JAYA: Following the delay on the implementation of Undi18, electoral watchdog Bersih 2.0 has demanded the setting up of an independent committee consisting of representatives from across political divides and civil societies to investigate the matter.
Bersih 2.0 said the independent committee should be authorised to open files and submit information, including contracts and costs for automatic voter registration preparation, tender process by the Election Commission (EC), reasons for delay and contractor responsibilities and compensation to be paid for failure as scheduled.
In a statement Thursday (April 8), Bersih 2.0 dismissed excuses given by EC chairman Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh over the delay on the implementation of Undi18 as absurd.
KUALA LUMPUR: The decision on leave for workers for Covid-19 vaccinations will be made only after engaging with stakeholders and worker unions, says Human Resource Minister Datuk Seri M Saravanan.
He said that the issue of taking off for a whole day for employees after receiving vaccination has to be looked into carefully as it may affect the flow of industries and added that he has spoken to Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba on the issue. The Human Resource Ministry will only make its decision on giving a day off for workers who receive the vaccination after we have spoken to union representatives such as the Malaysian Trade Union Congress (MTUC), said Saravanan.
PETALING JAYA: If Umno ministers decide to remain in the Perikatan Nasional Cabinet, they must voice out if the government makes decisions harmful to the people, says former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
He said although there’s no compulsion for Umno ministers to resign from the Cabinet despite the outcome of its recently concluded general assembly, the ministers concerned have a responsibility to the people given the slew of issues that cropped up recently.
“If Umno ministers decided not to resign because they have a responsibility to the people, then they can’t be silent when the government makes illogical decisions that clearly harm the people, ” he said.
