This is where pharmacies come in. When you go get your flu shot at the pharmacy, you get it from a pharmacist. However, there are also pharmacy technicians working there, who in the past have not been allowed to do that job as their schooling did not include that certification.

A team of doctors from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, BSA, and Northwest Texas, have been meeting about this day for a couple of weeks now, making frequent changes to adjust to the fluid situation. They have been doing test runs and watching tutorial videos released by Pfizer, the company which made the vaccine, about how to transfer it.

More COVID-19 Vaccines Set to Arrive in Texas Tuesday

Parkland Memorial Hospital, UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas and Texas Health Resources in Fort Worth are among the 19 Texas hospitals set to receive 75,000 doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine Tuesday. The first wave of frontline health care workers received the vaccine at Methodist Dallas Medical Center Monday. Vaccinations began at about 10:10 a.m. with the first shot going to 51-year-old Teresa Mata, an environmental services employee who cleans the emergency room at Methodist Dallas, spokesman Ryan Owens said. Mata said she was excited to be the first person to receive it and “wanted to take the risk” because she is diabetic.

Mata was the first to get the vaccine, followed by other frontline staff, including doctors and nurses. “It is an emotional and exciting day, Methodist Dallas ER Dr. Zachery Dreyfuss said. We have been dealing with this since March. This is the beginning hopefully of the end of the pandemic. Staff members who interact with COVID-19 patients at Methodist Dallas Medical Center were among the first people in the country to receive Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine on Monday. NBC 5’s Maria Guerrero reports that those who took it say it filled them with hope. Parkland Memorial Hospital and UT Southwestern in Dallas and Texas Health Resources in Fort Worth are among 19 more Texas hospitals scheduled to receive shipments of the vaccine Tuesday.
