Canada Backs Project Powering Oil & Gas Assets with Floating Wind

May 11, 2021, by Adrijana Buljan Canadian government has awarded funding to several projects that could help reduce greenhouse gas emissions from Newfoundland and Labrador’s offshore oil & gas operations, including a project using floating wind turbines to power oil & gas assets. The project, being developed by floating wind technology developer Saitec and offshore oil & gas engineering company Waterford Energy Services, is aiming to bring forward a ‘plug-and-play’ renewable power option for Mobile Offshore Drilling Units (MODUs) and other offshore or nearshore installations. The funding will be used for the first phase of the project. The second phase will focus on developing a full field demonstration, whereby power will be generated by a floating wind turbine and transmitted to an offshore or nearshore installation.

Competition: Uncrewed Underwater Vehicle Testbed

Details The Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) is launching Phase 1 of Uncrewed Underwater Vehicle Testbed – Opportunity to Integrate. This Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) competition seeks proposals for novel and innovative sensors and payloads to be trialled on an extra-large, uncrewed, underwater vehicle (XLUUV). The XLUUV is a platform the Royal Navy uses to understand potential capabilities of autonomous vehicles. This competition is looking for technologies ready for on-platform testing and validation which can help the Royal Navy innovate for the next generation of underwater capabilities. The XLUUV will test sensors and payloads in a range of scenarios. The testing is not intended at this point to lead to a procurement of sensors or payloads. Rather, the key objective of this competition is to gain insights from these tests, including the potential and limitations of UUV, to help the Royal Navy shape future requirements and design future capabilities and co
