Vietnam has advantages to develop a materials industry but has not developed in line with its potential, Tran Tuan Anh, head of the Central Economic Commission, said at a conference held on April 10 in HCM City.
The Ministry of Science and Technology signed an MoU with the Vietnam National University-HCM City at a conference on human resource development in the materials industry on April 10.
“Domestic materials still have not met the demand of main manufacturing industries, which has led to dependence on imported ones,” Anh said.

An annual report on the index for administrative procedure compliance costs in 2020 (APCI 2020) was released at a press conference on March 17 chaired by Minister and Chairman of the Government Office Mai Tien Dung, who is also Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Advisory Council for Administrative Procedure Reform.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) expects Vietnam’s economy to grow 6.5 percent in
2021 despite some economic scarring.
In its
2020 Article IV Consultation report with Vietnam, the IMF said the country’s growth is projected to strengthen to 6.5
percent, as normalisation of economic activity continues, businesses recover,
and private consumption and business investment rebound.
Per the report, manufacturing
and retail sales are expected to lead the recovery, while the travel and
hospitality services will remain subdued. Net exports will continue to contribute
positively to growth as external demand picks up.
