A NEW independent coffee shop is ready to welcome members of the community in the heart of a Chester district. The Garden Social Coffee Shop will be open from Tuesday, March 2 on Catherine Street, at the site of the former The Keg off-licence in the Garden Quarter, and owners Ewan and Holly Griffiths are keen to serve customers in a Covid-secure way. The duo have begun their coffee shop venture from very different careers; Ewan was a Special Needs Education teacher locally, while Holly was an occupational therapist at the Countess of Chester Hospital. The pair are hoping to create a community social space for people to enjoy fine coffee and food. To help with that, in accordance with the latest Government easing of lockdown restrictions, they will be able to serve to two people from different households, meeting socially outdoors, from Monday, March 8.

THIS road in Chester is usually busy with traffic – but today it was being used by a canoeist! The A5480 towards Deva Link has been closed since yesterday afternoon due to the severe flooding caused by heavy rain as a result of Storm Christoph. The road remains submerged by deep flood waters and one person took advantage of this rare occurrence to go canoeing. A video showing the canoeist in the distance was captured by Garden Quarter resident Emily Ghazarian, who is the marketing and events manager for Chester BID, during a family walk this morning. Last night images emerged of a car submerged in flood water on the A5480, which is no longer visible today.
