This is to say a huge “thank you” to your readers for supporting the National Garden Scheme in 2020. This support has helped us much make much needed positive impact on nursing and health charities, despite the many challenges. When the Covid-19 pandemic hit the UK, the restrictions meant that our main source of income, garden openings, stopped. We were faced with the prospect of little or no income. Fast action was needed. Many of our garden owners in Northumberland and Tyne and Wear raised significant sums by selling plants to friends or from a roadside stall. The NGS launched two campaigns – #helpsupportournurses (because the charity was founded by nurses and most of our beneficiaries are nursing charities), and online Virtual Garden Tours hosted by NGS garden owners, well-known garden designers and celebrities.
