College students earn scholarships, academic honors and meet graudation requirements

Pratt Tribune Ciara Hodgkinson of Pratt, Kansas, a December graduate in agribusiness, along with Summer Smades of Leoti, Kansas, a senior in agricultural economics, has been awarded the David and Susan Barton Cooperative Leadership Scholarship through the Arthur Capper Cooperative Center and the Department of Agricultural Economics at Kansas State University. Hodgkinson was an active student after transferring from Pratt Community College to Kansas State University. She served as president of Alpha Zeta and served as secretary and vice president of Collegiate Farm Bureau. She has been involved in many other organizations including K-State Agricultural Economics-Agribusiness Club, Gamma Sigma Delta, Block and Bridle and Phi Theta Kappa. In addition, Ciara finds time to volunteer on service projects. She has completed internships with Skyland Grain, Kansas Farm Bureau and also worked with CoBank on an extended internship. Garden City school board discusses ESSER program s future

Garden City Telegram The Garden City Unified School District 457 Board of Education was given an update on the Elementary and Secondary Schools Emergency Relief program and its remaining funds at the board s regular meeting Monday. KJ Knoll, USD 457 s financial officer, said the board approved the ESSER program, which comes from CARES Act funding, at the beginning of the 2020-21 school year, and the update was about presenting ideas for the remaining funds, which probably won t be spent until next year. We wanted to make sure the board understood there s these different buckets of funding and there s different things we can do with them, she said.

GBCF announces first Come Home Reverse Scholarship recipients Kyler Clawson and his family recently moved to Great Bend. He is the first recipient of a Come Home Reverse Scholarship. Kyler Clawson, a Barton County native, had been “rolling around the idea” of starting a chiropractic clinic in Great Bend. When he mentioned this to his uncle, Jon Prescott of Ellinwood, he learned there is something called a Come Home Reverse Scholarship. Clawson and his wife, Stacy, sought more information and the result is the Golden Belt Community Foundation (GBCF) recently named him the first recipient of a local Come Home award. The Clawsons now live in Great Bend.
