INDIANAPOLIS Downtown Indianapolis business is making a comeback, slowly but surely.
Downtown Indy, Inc. held a large, in-person meeting Thursday to discuss the latest annual report. That meeting took place at the Hilbert Circle Theatre – the first large event at the theatre since last year.
Sherry Seiwert, President of Downtown Indy Inc. tells WISH-TV she believes the report shows signs of progress. Seiwert says even though we were going through a pandemic in 2020, the value of new developments totaled around $413 million.
She believes the success of the NCAA Tournament and several small events have helped boost downtown business.

INDIANAPOLIS As more people are vaccinated and as more events open up, there are more signs of life in a struggling downtown Indianapolis.

INDIANAPOLIS (Inside INdiana Business) Indianapolis-based Emmis Communications Corp. (Nasdaq: EMMS) has handed over control of the popular Fourth of July fireworks event in downtown Indianapolis to Downtown Indy Inc. The organization says it is looking for a new location from which it can launch fireworks after the previous location was deemed unsuitable.
The Regions Tower in downtown Indy had served as the host location for the Downtown Freedom Fest for more than 50 years, with the fireworks being launched from the building’s rooftop.
