MISSOULA â The Missoula City Council has approved a resolution to the Montana Department of Environmental Quality urging it to ensure that portions of the downtown railyard are cleaned to residential standards with the comment period closing and a remedy pending.
Anything less would eliminate housing as a potential use on one of the last, large swaths of land in the downtown district â something council members described as short-sighted.

City of Midlothian Seeks Private Developer to Transform Downtown Lawson Buildings
Exciting Times Ahead For Downtown Midlothian
It seems like at least once a week someone posts a question on a Midlothian social media talk group asking, “where’s a good place to go for dinner/brewery/live music venue, etc.?” And often the biggest issue is ‘how far away from home is it?’ Perhaps that will change with the development of the Lawson Buildings in downtown Midlothian.
Today the city announced they’re requesting proposals from private developers to transform the two buildings at 301 and 211 West Main Street, which encompass 45,000 square feet, as a restaurant, entertainment venue, retail activity center, or other destination concept to attract more visitors and residents to the area.
Hotel State College & Co. is seeking approval from State College Borough for a seasonal walkway that would support outdoor dining at Bill Pickle’s Taproom during warm weather months while also improving pedestrian access along South Allen Street.
The “pedlet,” would be in place from spring to fall within the two parking spaces directly in front of the 106 S. Allen St. tavern, connecting to the sidewalk and going around the Pickle’s seasonal outdoor deck.
In 2017, borough council approved a three-year agreement for Pickle’s to have an outdoor dining area extending into the sidewalk from April through the end of October. The deck allowed for a 5-foot clearance at the narrowest point on the sidewalk.
