Council approves plan to utilize parking spaces for outdoor dining

First Ward Councilwoman Pat Fowler was outspoken Monday night during the Columbia City Council meeting about her support of an ordinance that would allow restaurants to use parking spaces for outdoor seating. However, that temporary permit would only last 20 days under the original ordinance. That period of time isn t cost-effective for local businesses, Fowler said. “It seems like the restaurants would not get a benefit out of that if they had to dismantle it and move it within 20 days only to apply to bring it back, Fowler said.
