KITCHENER Waterloo Region s top doctor said she s not planning to shut down in-person learning at local schools. In an emailed statement to CTV Kitchener, Medical Officer of Health Dr. Hsiu-Li Wang said given our overall COVID-19 situation in the region at this time, she doesn t plan to issue a Section 22 order to shutdown schools. We are however monitoring our local situation closely and will take additional actions as required, a statement from Dr. Wang said in part. Schools in Peel Region were ordered to close as of April 6 as COVID-19 cases surge in that area. Students in Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga will move to online learning until at least April 18.
KITCHENER The closure of an in-car attraction in Kitchener due to Ontario lockdown restrictions has some confused about the new province-wide rules. The dinosaur drive-thru at Bingemans has been shut down, like many other attractions and businesses across the province. “Unfortunately the dino drive thru, which is a total in-car experience for families, is not permitted to operate,” said Bingemans preside Mark Bingeman. He adds that he’s confused since they were allowed to stay open under previous grey zone or lockdown rules. However, the attraction’s gift shop is allowed to be open on Sunday since retail stores can operate during the shutdown in limited capacity.
CAMBRIDGE Easter Sunday church services in Ontario looked a little different during 2021 due to the 15 per cent capacity lockdown restriction. Forward Church’s service in Cambridge looked more like a concert, with the goal of keeping it upbeat on the important day. “I like to call it our main event of the year,” said co-lead pastor Kirk Giles. While the new rules are limiting for attendance, many church members say they’re just happy to congregate in any way. “Normally we’re watching on a screen when we’re in lockdown,” said Nancy Halloran. “To be able to congregate together and to hear it live is always a better place to be.”
