Mayoral committee member for housing Mlungisi Mabaso this week hosted a sod-turning ceremony at the site in Edenburg, Rivonia.
Led by the Johannesburg Social Housing Company (Joshco), the development aims to advance the city’s programme of building decent, accessible and affordable housing enabling qualifying groups of middle-low income earners to access housing opportunities around the economic nerve centres such as Sandton, Midrand and Fourways.

JOHANNESBURG - The City of Johannesburg on Monday said while it understood the desperate need to access housing and land by angry residents of Rabie Ridge, it would not tolerate lawlessness.

JOHANNESBURG - The City of Joburg on Monday said that it was committed to providing building materials for thousands of residents in the Booysens informal settlement who were left destitute when a fire tore through their community.
The densely populated area in the south of Johannesburg was razed to the ground on Friday.
Over 600 homes were destroyed, with city authorities warning this number could increase as relief efforts continue.
