The Herald News New Bedford The New Bedford arts community and creative businesses, along with a host of others, have big plans to put some sizzle into your winter this year.  #NBfestive Winter Places will pop-up at various hot spots throughout downtown New Bedford’s Seaport Cultural District – places where residents and visitors can “warm up, chill out, shop small and eat local.  #NBfestive Winter Places partners the City of New Bedford with Destination New Bedford, New Bedford Creative, UMass Dartmouth CVPA and the New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park every Thursday through Saturday through the winter months. On those days artists, performers and downtown businesses will offer a variety of special events and programming in the city that are safe and fun for all ages.

Morad s Support Could Make Difference for New Bedford [OPINION]

The New Bedford City Council plans to vote on Thursday night on the first phase of a proposal that would convert a portion of the Whaling City Golf Course into an Advanced Manufacturing Campus. A unanimous vote in the affirmative could make a big difference. A yes vote asks the Massachusetts Legislature to approve a home rule petition that permits the Mitchell Administration to use protected parkland at the golf course while converting city-owned land in Dartmouth to recreational use. It really does require an act of the legislature to get it done. The vote to report the measure to the full council was 10-1 with only Councilor-at-Large Linda Morad opposed. Morad s opposition seemed odd as she proposed a very similar economic development strategy when she ran for mayor in 2011. But there it was.

New Bedford Endangered Area Police Officers [OPINION] The New Bedford Police Department failed to warn most area communities that an armed man was on the loose who could pose a danger to their police officers. A New Bedford police officer s apartment was riddled with gunfire over a week ago. Police Chief Joseph Cordeiro first claimed that a BOLO (be on the lookout) had been broadcast on the local police radio. He eventually conceded that it had not. As a result, most New Bedford Police officers were not immediately informed. The customary regionwide BOLO that would follow a local broadcast was not issued either.

Since we are so close to the water, we don t normally get hit as hard with weather as some of the more inland communities do, but I m sure this is nothing new to you. At approximately 7 p.m. on Sunday night, a text was sent out to the residents of New Bedford, myself being one of them. It was a message from the City of New Bedford that read as follows:
