GF schools hope to replace and update camera system

By Doug Barrett May 24, 2021 | 8:29 AM The Grand Forks school system is planning to use a $535,000 dollar grant to upgrade hundreds of surveillance cameras in schools throughout the district.  The money from the North Dakota Homeland Grant program will boost security on elementary…middle…and high school campuses.  The district has secured a vendor for the cameras which will be managed under a single data system. School board members tonight (Monday) are expected to approve an agreement for School Resource Officer Services for the 2021-22 school year.  The joint program with the City of Grand Forks will cost the district around $173,000 dollars – or about $5,000 dollars over this year’s plan.  The board and GFPD split the salary and benefit costs for the five SRO’s.

One-dose COVID-19 vaccine available at future GF clinics

By Pat Sweeney (City of Grand Forks release) The Janssen/Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine will be offered by Grand Forks Public Health and Altru at Grand Forks community clinics on Saturday, April 10th from 2:50 to 6:00 p.m. and Wednesday, April 14th from 4:10 to 5:10 p.m. The Janssen vaccine is one of three COVID-19 vaccines available in the United States that has received emergency use authorization from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration. The vaccination is approved for people ages 18 and older. Community Clinic Incident Commander, Haley Bruhn, sees this as a great opportunity for members of the community who might be hesitant about vaccinations. “Many people see this as a ‘one and done’ vaccine, which attracts people who may have been holding back because of fear of needles. It’s also appealing to people concerned about time restraints, who might not be able to receive a two-dose series vaccination,” Bruhn said.
