Lubbock reports 13 new COVID-19 cases, 10 more recoveries

Lubbock confirmed 13 new coronavirus cases, 10 more people recovered and no new COVID-19-linked deaths on Wednesday.
The total number of confirmed cases is listed at 48,591, with 47,692 people recovered and 176 active cases, according to data provided by the City of Lubbock Health Department.
Since last March, 723 deaths have been linked to COVID-19, with no new deaths reported since March 22.
The percentage of COVID-19 confirmed patients in regional hospitals as a percentage of available hospital beds was 2.52 percent as reported Tuesday - no change from the percentage reported on Tuesday. Trauma Service Area B, which includes Lubbock County, will be under lessened restrictions outlined under Governor Abbott’s Executive Orders unless the area goes above 15% for seven consecutive days.

One year ago today, the City of Lubbock and it s health professionals announced that the coronavirus pandemic had officially reached Lubbock. Citizens in Lubbock had already seen sports cancelled and even some businesses send people home. Texas Tech had extended Spring Break and there was some hope that maybe it would take longer than it did before the pandemic arrived in Lubbock. We had all seen life beginning to change, but on March 17th the announcement really brought it home. Here is the press release from that announcement. At the time, Lubbock thought there were two cases, one of those cases happened to be a resident of Hockley County.

The total number of confirmed cases is listed at 48,347, with 47,447 people recovered and 183 active cases, according to data provided by the City of Lubbock Health Department.
Since last March, 717 deaths have been linked to COVID-19, with four more reported since last Saturday.
As of 4 p.m. Friday, there were a combined 37 open hospital beds and 14 patients holding for beds at University Medical Center and Covenant Health System. Note that this reflects staffed beds open to receive patients and differs from the available bed count shown on the DSHS and the City of Lubbock dashboards. These dashboards count all available beds, including specialty beds, such as pediatrics, PICU, outpatient, psychiatric and others, as well as hospitalized patients in the 22 county Trauma Service Area.
On March 10, 2,158 individuals received a vaccine during a COVID-19 vaccine clinic that was managed by the City of Lubbock Health Department, according to a city news release.
