NBCUniversal News Group says they are committed to diversity through a new initiative.
The media giant has created NBCU Academy, a new program that will help groom the next generation of journalists through hands-on training. The program will be available to students at several Historically Black colleges and universities.
Per a press release on Thursday obtained by
theGrio, the program will also be offered at institutions serving mostly students of color and will include scholarships and access to NBCU News Group Journalists around the world.

The program will provide equipment and collaborate with professors to develop the courses.
Additionally, NBCU News Group journalists, executives and management from editorial and production teams across NBC News, MSNBC, CNBC and Telemundo News will participate as guest lecturers to provide real-world insight and mentorship, according to a statement.

NBCUniversal is doing its part to help out historically Black colleges and universities. The entertainment and media company announced that it will be partnering with a number of educational institutions to launch the NBCU Academy.
The new program will offer training and development workshops for students plus a chance to work alongside established journalists from NBC News, and it will fund journalism scholarships.
The initiative represents a $6.5 million investment each to universities such as Clark Atlanta and Morgan State, and is a part of the parent company’s $100 million commitment to racial injustice and social change made earlier this year in response to the police shootings of unarmed Black civilians.
