A bronze sculpture of Walter Singer graces Veterans Community Plaza in 2014, above. The bust was removed and put in storage in 2015. The Public Arts Commission plans to display it once again.
The bust of the late downtown Los Altos businessman, known by local residents as “Mr. Los Altos,” has remained in storage at the museum since 2015. The sculpture had previously been on display in Veterans Community Plaza since 1993, but it was removed when city leaders wanted to create more open space in the plaza.

St. Francis High School in Mountain View is being sued by two former students and their parents.
Two former St. Francis High School students and their parents filed a $20 million lawsuit against the school Aug. 21, alleging that the administration forced the boys out after images of them interpreted to be wearing blackface went viral last summer.
Amid the Black Lives Matter protests last June, a meme mocking George Floyd’s death posted to the Instagram account @Obamas memes – since taken down – was linked to a St. Francis High graduate. In the same week, a photograph of the two boys – then rising seniors – taken from a different student’s Spotify account was posted to a group chat before becoming public on Facebook. In the image, the two boys appear to be wearing blackface.
