A Mountain View-based doctor is facing sexual battery charges after one of his former patients told police he made aggressive advances toward her.
The Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety arrested Todd Yao, 50, July 8, according to a department press release. He is an urgent care doctor for Sutter Healthâs Mountain View branch, located at 701 E. El Camino Real.
The patient told police officers she received treatment from Yao in November, and he befriended her afterward, the release stated. In the months that followed, she said, Yao made romantic advances toward her, which she rejected. On at least three occasions, he allegedly forced himself on her, pushed her down and kissed her lips.
As you may have heard or read, on July 9, 2021, Gov. Gavin Newsom declared a drought emergency for Santa Clara County. The Santa Clara Valley Water Board of Directors has also declared a water shortage emergency for the county and called for a mandatory 15% reduction in water use from 2019 water use levels.
At the same time, due to the extreme heat in California, wildfires in Oregon and the high demand for electricity, the California Independent System Operator issued a Flex Alert last week. The Flex Alert encouraged California residents to take immediate steps to conserve energy to help reduce the strain on the power grid, limit possible power outages and minimize the risk of local wildfires.
A dozen Los Altos High School students, advised by their art teacher Christine An, tamed a variety of the colorful fiberglass bears populating the downtown area for the Los Altos Bears fundraiser.
The Town Crierâs new mascot bear greets the public from the paperâs balcony on Main Street. Student artists Samantha Zhang, Jacqueline Hu and Yelena Tao collaborated with one another and Town Crier staff to create a bear costumed as a traditional European town crier, complete with bell and tri-cornered hat.
The trio of artists faced challenges, such as being consistent in painting the bearâs fur and clothing. While they worked in the Town Crierâs lobby, its door open to the sidewalk, curious passersby expressed their appreciation to the artists, who said they had great fun working as a team.
Hard work needed to meet RHNA targets
Thank you to the Town Crier for the editorial highlighting the dire need for additional housing in Los Altos (âMagic needed to meet RHNA quota,â June 23).
The editorial stated that âmagic is what it may take to meet the new RHNA targets.â I suggest that itâs not magic, but hard work, planning and new policies that are needed to reach the Regional Housing Needs Allocation (RHNA). Weâre starting to meet those targets with two housing developments: 330 Distel Circle will have at least 90 affordable units, and 5150 El Camino Real could provide 196 new units. Also, Los Altos permitted 22 accessory dwelling units last year.
