Concert-goers have been honking their horns and flashing their lights in approval of one of the few ways to see shows during the coronavirus pandemic.
Rooftops and parking lots in Santa Ana, Costa Mesa, Fullerton, Tustin, Irvine and Westminster have become venues making use of California car culture to bring a drive-in model for movies and live performances.
Nederlander Concerts launched the Drive-In OC concert series at City National Grove of Anaheim last summer and have been offering a steady lineup including Fitz & the Tantrums, Banda El Recodo, La Sonora Dinamita, Iliza Shlesinger, Ziggy Marley, Tori Kelly and Kaskade.

“THE BLACK INDEX”
For this exhibit, artists Dennis Delgado, Alicia Henry, Kenyatta A.C. Hinkle, Titus Kaphar, Whitfield Lovell, and Lava Thomas created unexpected and unconventional depictions of Black subjects through drawings, performance art, prints, sculptures, and digital art that challenge traditional methods of portraiture. All of the works will be available for viewing through a virtual tour, and all related performances and lectures will be prerecorded and shared through the college’s website.

SMETANA TRIO
Originally founded in 1934, this piano trio has long been recognized as the top chamber ensemble from the Czech Republic. The current group with Jan Talich on violin, Jan Pálenícek on cello, and Jitka Cechová on piano has performed across the world and recorded 11 albums. The musicians will perform works by Beethoven, Dvorák, and Novák.

CLEVELAND, Ohio Just over a month since the New York Dolls’ Sylvain Sylvain passed away at the age of 69, the guitarist’s friends and admirers are gathering for a virtual celebration at 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14 what would have been his 70th birthday. Dolls bandmate David Johansen, Debbie Harry and Clem Burke from Blondie, the Patti Smith Group’s Lenny Kaye, Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore, Aaron Lee Tasjan, Chuck Prophet, Jesse Malin and more will perform and share stories.
