Governor Cuomo announced Monday that New York’s public universities would require students to be vaccinated against COVID-19 before they return to school this autumn. The move arrived hours before the U.S. Food and Drug Administration authorized the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for 12-to-15-year-olds. Younger kids will likely need to wait until September.
With shots for younger children on the horizon, parents and educators have been asking if vaccines against COVID-19 will be required at all schools including ones for New York’s K-12 students as they are for other diseases. And what about a staff mandate, given that COVID cases are way more common in them than students at New York City’s public schools?
New York to Require University Students to Show Vaccination Proof
Students attending universities in New York won’t be able to continue classes unless they get vaccinated against COVID-19, the disease caused by the CCP virus.
The announcement was made by New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo during a press briefing on Monday. The governor explained State University of New York (SUNY) and City University of New York (CUNY) will require CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus vaccination proof for students returning this fall.
“So, today, no excuses. SUNY and CUNY boards will require vaccinations for all in-person students coming back to school in the fall,” the Democratic governor said. “You’re a young person. You go to a SUNY school, State University of New York, City University of New York, you must have a vaccine to come back in September.”

CUNY, SUNY to Require Vaccines, Contingent on FDA Approval

New York governor Andrew Cuomo said Monday that the City University of New York and State University of New York boards will require COVID-19 vaccinations for all in-person students starting this fall. Cuomo also said he would recommend private colleges require vaccination.
