DSWD 7 preps P22 2M relief aid for Auring

SunStar Typhoon Auring path February 19, 2021 NATIONAL government agencies and even local government units in Cebu are bracing themselves for Tropical Storm Auring (International name: Dujuan), which is expected to make landfall in the Visayas during the weekend. In preparation for Auring’s impact in the region, officials of the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Central Visayas (DSWD 7) have prepared P22.2 million worth of stockpile aid and standby funds. DSWD 7 Director Rebecca Geamala told SunStar Cebu that the P22.2 million covers family food packs, non-food relief items, and standby funds. “We will be using these funds in case of calamities. If the amount is insufficient to provide aid to those affected, we can always request more from our Central Office,” Geamala said.

Heavy rains, floods force Tacloban City to suspend classes, work in government

  Mayor Alfred Romualdez has issued an executive order on class and work suspension except for those involved in the maintenance of peace and order, disaster risk management, health and sanitation, and traffic management.   He also ordered the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office to be on full alert and maintain a functioning mechanism to respond to all contingencies to address any eventualities.   Romualdez said the issuance of the EO is in anticipation of any developments that may arise out of the low-pressure area (LPA) at 580 km East of Davao City (6.5°N, 131.0°E) as of 4:00 A.M.   The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Service Administration warns of possible flash floods or landslides during moderate to heavy rains in Visayas, Bicol Region, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, and Davao Region.

Samal receives new COVID-19 antigen kits

Published February 6, 2021, 9:17 PM The local government of the Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos) on Friday, Feb. 5, received a total of 2,000 antigen test kits and a new antigen machine for swab testing for the detection of coronavirus disease (COVID-19). In a statement, the local government said the donations were given by the Ulticon Builders, Inc. on Friday at the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) Operations Center in Samal District. “The diagnostic kits are said to be faster and reliable antigen kits as it can detect the presence of COVID-19 infection within 15 minutes with a 96.7 effectivity rate,” it said.
