Medical frontliners, police, senior, poorest first to get vaccine

SunStar + January 08, 2021 MEDICAL frontliners will be the first to be vaccinated once the Cebu City Government has a Covid-19 vaccine. Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella, in a press conference on Jan. 8, 2021, said the medical frontliners are the most exposed to the suspected and confirmed Covid-19 patients, so there is a need to prioritize them. Labella said next in line are the police and military forces. Labella said law enforcement groups have been deployed to man the checkpoints around the city since the city was placed under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in March 2020. Other sectors to be prioritized in the vaccination program are the senior citizens and those considered the “poorest of the poor.”

City Council cuts budget for Sinulog 2021 to P25M

SunStar SunStar File December 31, 2020 THE Cebu City Council has allotted P25 million, P10 million lower than the usual allocation, for the upcoming Sinulog Festival under the approved 2021 annual budget, Vice Mayor Michael Rama said Wednesday, December 30, 2020. The amount is enough considering there will be fewer contingents, and cash prizes and subsidies to the participants will be reduced, said Jocelyn Pesquera, chair of the Sinulog Foundation Inc. (SFI) executive committee. She did not specify the amounts. Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella has until today, December 31, to sign the budget, Councilor Raymond Alvin Garcia said. SFI executive director Elmer Jojo Labella, brother of the mayor, said only 12 contingents have registered or expressed interest in participating in the Sinulog showdown to be held at the South Road Properties (SRP) on January 17, 2021.
