Amidst the Second COVID-19 Wave, Mumbai Halves New Cases in Past 20 Days

 0 While the number of new COVID-19 patients are increasing across the country, the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) or Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) reported less than 50% of new cases that it recorded at the beginning of April. As per data released by BMC, on 25 April 2021, the city recorded 5,542 new COVID-19 cases, down by nearly 50% in the past 21 days.   When the second wave hit, Mumbai witnessed new cases crossing 10,000 figures. On 4th April it reported 11,163 COVID-19 cases. On 7th April, it dropped marginally to 10,428 cases. The number of new cases is falling continuously since then and as on 25 April 2021, Mumbai recorded 5,542 new COVID-19 cases.

Meanwhile, an Oxygen Express train carrying four tankers from Raigarh (Chhattisgarh) was expected to reach Delhi early Tuesday morning. A ‘green corridor’ has been provided for the faster movement of the Oxygen Express. The medical oxygen is being made available for treatment of COVID-19 patients across the country, through Oxygen Express trains run by Ministry of Railways. The Oxygen Express from Gujarat to Mumbai travelled a distance of 860 km. Its tankers carried about 44 tonnes of liquid medical oxygen. Necessary arrangements had been made at the Kalamboli goods shed for smooth movement of the Oxygen Express. It reached Kalamboli from Hapa via Viramgam, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Vasai Road and Bhiwandi Road, keeping in place all the safety parame

Each plant will make 2 tonnes of oxygen from air per day The Mumbai metropolitan region will soon have 14 plants for producing medical oxygen from the air. The plants would be set up by local municipal bodies. Each plant would be able to produce about two tonnes of oxygen per day, said Maharashtra’s Urban Development Minister, Eknath Shinde in a media statement on Sunday. Due to the ongoing Covid pandemic, the state and the Mumbai metropolitan region has been facing a massive shortage of medical oxygen. The statement said that local municipal bodies in places such as Thane, Kalyan Dombivali, Ambernath, Badlapur and other areas have come forward for setting up the plant. These plants will be operational in the next few days.

Mumbai municipal corporation to create 43 MT of medical oxygen capacity April 24, 2021 The capacity will cost about ₹90 crore Given the Covid-19 pandemic, the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) is in the process of creating 43 metric tonnes of medical oxygen capacity per day at 12 municipal hospitals in the city. The capacity addition is expected to cost about ₹90 crore. A media statement issued by the MCGM said that the oxygen would be generated from the atmosphere. In the 12 hospitals, 16 oxygen generation projects are planned. As soon as the tender process is completed, the projects will be commencing within a month and they will have a life span of at least 15 years. These projects will reduce the dependence of the MCGM on external oxygen supply.
