+ December 30, 2020 BARUGO, a quaint town in the province of Leyte, is “adaptive and resilient” amid the challenges brought by the global health crisis.
Mayor Ma. Rosario “Macel” Avestruz, the second woman to become the town’s chief executive, said that this became possible because Barugonons or the locals have “held on, united, and fought back” despite the threat of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic, which already brought many other places to their knees.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 21) The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council does not have the funding to grant hazard pay to local rescuers who have been responding to the pandemic and the recent calamities that hit the country, the agency s head admitted.
During the Laging Handa briefing on Monday, NDRRMC executive director Usec. Ricardo Jalad responded to the appeal of 24 officers of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office in Northern Samar to provide them and other workers on the ground with compensatory benefits for responding to various hazards. Ang budgetary requirement na iyan, sa ngayon, ay hindi po covered ng National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund, Jalad said.

BUTUAN CITY (PNA) – Heavy rains caused by the onslaught of tropical depression (TD) Vicky caused flooding in several towns and cities in Caraga Region on Friday.
Authorities are closely watching the increase of the water level at Agusan River in Butuan City, as TD Vicky continues to bring heavy rains and strong winds in the area and the nearby towns in Agusan del Sur. Local governments in Caraga Region activated their respective disaster management councils to respond to the flooding and other effects of the inclement weather.

The City Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Council (CDRRMC) here said it was also closely monitoring the water level at Agusan River.

TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Field Office 8 has announced the closure of some routes going to Southern Leyte on Saturday December 19.
Tacloban-Baybay South Road K0985+200 in Brgy. Cuatro De Agosto, Mahaplag, Leyte, has been totally closed due to a road cut brought about by incessant rainfall brought by tropical depression Vicky.
It also caused a landslide that killed two elderly women and injured two individuals.
Abuyog – Silago Road was also rendered impassable after the Panalian Bridge Detour was swamped with floodwater, according to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Silago, Southern Leyte.
