Housing and Urban Development Secretary Marcia Fudge withdrew a Trump administration rule that would discriminate against transgender people.
The Department of Housing and Urban Development is pulling back a proposal put forward by President Donald Trump’s administration that would have allowed taxpayer-funded homeless shelters to discriminate against transgender individuals.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Housing and Urban Development Secretary Marcia Fudge on Thursday withdrew a Trump administration policy proposal that would have let federally-funded single-sex homeless shelters deny service to transgender people on the basis of their biological sex even if their gender identity matched those served by the shelter.

A religious-rights group on Friday blasted a decision by Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Marcia Fudge to reverse a Trump-era move that would have allowed faith-based groups running homeless shelters to decide which gender they consider transgender people to be.
The result will be that homeless shelters still will be required to allow a transgender person who was born as a male to sleep next to women, the Alliance Defending Freedom said.
