The government has set a target of 1.12 crore houses to be constructed in urban areas in the country over a period of seven years from 2015 to 2022 Construction of as many as 1.68 lakh houses have been approved by the government under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), the Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry has said. The decision was taken at the 52nd meeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC) held on January 20 in which representatives of 14 states/UTs participated.
