Parshat Shoftim Our early chachamim positioned the haftarah of Parshat Shoftim, which is taken from the 51st and 52nd chapters of Sefer Yishayahu, to follow that of Re’eh, which is found three prakim later (54th and 55th). By doing so, they have left a subtle or not so subtle message for us to ponder and understand.

(Courtesy of JNF-USA) Jewish National Fund-USA (JNF-USA) announced that its largest annual fundraising event will return on Sunday, September 12 with a two-hour virtual program featuring top-tier celebrities, comedy, music and entertainment broadcast live from the organization’s in-person soiree at City Winery, an upscale music venue and wine bar overlooking the Hudson River in New York’s trendy Chelsea neighborhood.
Who doesn’t love those videos of silver-haired, wizened old folks running marathons and lifting weights? I think they appeal to that part of us that is in denial about our own aging prospects and besides, don’t we all aspire to be among those select non-aging nonagenarians?! Genes notwithstanding, no one knows what lies in store for them in the future.
It was only a year ago that Bi-Cultural Hebrew Academy expanded its reach beyond the classroom with the launch of the Center for Community Education (CCE). Created as a vehicle to inspire thoughtful conversation related to the spectrum of important issues facing the Jewish community, CCE brings together local, national and international Jewish educators in an effort to establish Stamford as an educational center for Modern Orthodoxy.
