Harley Morgan, 21, of Newark, was convicted of one count of attempted murder, a first-degree felony; three counts of felonious assault, all second-degree felonies; three counts of aggravated burglary, all first-degree felonies; and one count of menacing by stalking, a second-degree felony. Morgan broke into 27-year-old Haley Rakaska s Newark home and stabbed her over 20 times with her four young children nearby. He also struck her with a T-ball bat her 7-year-old son had retrieved to protect his mother during the assault.

Columbus man charged in alleged $10k+ drug sale in Etna Township Newark Advocate ETNA TOWNSHIP - A Columbus man has been arrested after he allegedly sold over $10,000 worth of Oxycodone pills to a confidential informant during a controlled buy in Licking County last week. Marcus J. Martin, 32, of Columbus, was arrested and charged with one count of aggravated trafficking in Oxycodone, a first-degree felony. According to a criminal complaint filed in Licking County Common Pleas Court, detectives with the Central Ohio Drug Enforcement Task Force on Wednesday conducted a controlled buy of Oxycodone pills from Martin. The agency said detectives met with a confidential informant prior to the controlled buy, where the individual showed detectives text messages between himself and Martin. The agency said text messages showed Martin agreed to sell the individual 300 30 milligram Oxycodone pills at $35 each for a total of $10,500 at the Kroger in Reynoldsburg.

Centerburg man pleads guilty to charges in Homer area police standoff Newark Advocate NEWARK - A Centerburg man this week pleaded to charges related to a police standoff in the Homer area. James A. Dague, 32, of Centerburg, pleaded guilty to one count each obstructing official business, a fifth-degree felony, and aggravated menacing, a first-degree misdemeanor, in Licking County Common Pleas Court on Wednesday. According to Assistant Licking County Prosecutor Rachel Timoneri, their agency filed a motion to dismiss one count of having weapons under disability, a third-degree felony, in the case. Licking County court records filed in October report the Licking County Sheriff s Office was dispatched to a home in the 4900 block of Homer Road NW in Centerburg in October for the report of a person who had barricaded themselves, along with unwilling individuals, inside the home. There was also a report someone had fired a weapon inside the home.
