Hilltowns: Parent Cafe offers resources, strategies

The Hilltown Coordinated Family and Community Engagement Council invites the community to a virtual Parent Cafe at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 24, via Zoom. The event offers an opportunity to share stories, learn about local resources and strategies to stay sane during this time. This program is a collaboration of Hilltown Community Health Centers Family Support program, the Behavioral Health Network, New England Farmworkers, the Gateway Regional School District, and It Takes A Village. Legislators pledge funding as addiction cases continue rising MARKEY Published: 3/17/2021 5:10:45 PM Federal legislators told the Opioid Task Force of Franklin County and the North Quabbin Region on Wednesday that addiction should be examined through the lens of mental health, not moral failing, and that it is imperative that programs like the ones the local task force offers be funded. The task force met virtually with local agency heads and state and local legislators to discuss what some of the continuing needs are when it comes to helping individuals and their families through addiction and recovery. “We’ve been doing groundbreaking work,” said Sheriff Christopher Donelan, who is a co-chair of the Opioid Task Force. “But there are still deficiencies in the work being done with the addicted community.”

He served for seven years in the U.S. Air Force and went on to become a finance manager at a privately held business in Western Mass. Wilson, longtime president and CEO of Behavioral Health Network, will retire on June 30, and will be succeeded by Steven Winn, BHN’s current chief operating officer. Headquartered in Springfield, BHN has been providing behavioral health services to children and families throughout Western Massachusetts since 1938. It includes the Northern Hope Center and Franklin Recovery Center on Federal Street on the former Lunt Silversmith property in Greenfield. With the rise of the opioid epidemic, Wilson guided the strategy to provide more recovery resources in the community. “She has left a legacy of caring and serving in a way that has made a difference in the lives of thousands of individuals needing behavioral health and recovery services,” said BHN Board Chair George Marion. “Kathy will be sorely missed, but leaves BHN in a strong position to continue its leadership in providing developmental
