Dance Theatre of Harlem announced today a new slate of digital performances as part of its online streaming series, DTH On Demand, and events, including its annual Founders Week celebration, throughout February, the nation s month to officially and proudly honor Black History. Performances, being presented as part of DTH s Virtual Winter Ballet series, include Firebird, DTH s ravishing production of the beloved ballet that John Taras created exclusively for the company in 1982; John Henry, the magnificent 1988 ballet by DTH Co-founder Arthur Mitchell, streaming via Stage Access; Passage, Claudia Schreier s searing 2019 work that reflects the arrival of the first enslaved Africans to the American continent in 1619, featuring music by Jes

Emmy- and Tony-winning actress Cicely Tyson, who distinguished herself in theater, film and television, died on Thursday afternoon. She was 96.
“I have managed Miss Tyson’s career for over 40 years, and each year was a privilege and blessing,” her manager, Larry Thompson, said in a statement. “Cicely thought of her new memoir as a Christmas tree decorated with all the ornaments of her personal and professional life. Today she placed the last ornament, a Star, on top of the tree.”

Cicely Tyson, the admired Oscar-nominated actress who made television history while forging a sterling career out of portraying women of strength and substance, died Thursday. She was 96.
Her death was announced by her longtime manager, Larry Thompson.
Tyson died two days after her memoir
Saluted with an honorary Academy Award at the Governors Awards in November 2018, Tyson became the first African American to win a lead actress Emmy Award when she was recognized for her astonishing performance as a woman who ages from 23 to 110 from the 1850s to the civil-rights era in the 1974 CBS telefilm

Her youth growing up in New York, life pre-fame and groundbreaking work span 400 pages in the book (HarperCollins, out now), written with collaborator Michelle Burford and broken into three sections: Planted, Rooted and Bountiful.
