UWS and Action Against Stalking team up in new prevention centre project

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers? We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions. What should we do with our second vote in 2021? What happens if Westminster says no to indyref2? Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversation, register under fake names, and post vile abuse. We’ve had hundreds of emails from you complaining about this, asking us to take steps to ensure that these people aren’t given a platform on our site.

UWS: stalking centre project unveiled

Scottish University to set up centre against stalking A Scottish university will set up a centre for the prevention of stalking this month to help reduce abusive  and harmful  behaviour.  The University of the West of Scotland has unveiled plans for an Action Against Stalking centre, run in partnership with the namesake charity.  The project will involve research into the issue, as well as studying coercion and control on children and young people, the motivations of perpetrators, and cyber-stalking. It will be unveiled at the first-ever international conference on the problem. The three-day event will take place online from April 20, during National Stalking Awareness Week.

21 Years of the Herald Politician of the Year Awards: Best campaigner

Jennifer McCarron, Roza Salih, and Evelina Siwak from Drumchapel. DESPITE the name, The Herald Scottish Politician of the Year Awards are not solely about politicians.   Recognising the ways that members of the public, often those thrust into extraordinary or tragic circumstances, can shake up the system is also an integral part of the event.   For the passion, determination, grief and anger felt outside Parliament have always been key drivers of change within it, as parties are compelled to respond to the public mood.   With the awards on pause in 2020 because of Covid, this week The Herald has been running the judges’ pick of the overall winners from the past 21 years of devolution.
