EAST MOLINE, Ill. Acts of kindness flooded through Hope Creek s doors as valentines arrived Sunday Morning. Activity Coordinator, Cheryl Campbell, said when they made a post on Facebook asking for valentines, they didn’t expect to get so many. The nursing home received hundreds of cards from across the nation.
“We’ve opened some from Texas, LeClaire, and different spots in Iowa and Illinois” said Campbell.
Since the start of COVID-19, widespread feelings of loneliness have become a commonality between communities. While states begin to lift restrictions, some individuals are still suck in phase one.
The recreation division of the Town of Fountain Hills Community Services Department has for almost a year now been working through the COVID-19 pandemic to maintain activities and education programs geared toward serving the residents of the community.
âThe Community Services department had to cancel many events in 2020 due to the pandemic, such as Irish Fountain Fest, Music Fest, Back to School Bash, Fourth at the Fountain, Elfieâs Playground Palooza and Eggstravaganza,â said Recreation Manager Linda Ayres. âChallenges like these drive the staff to innovate and find new ways to engage the community in a safe manner.
âWe collaborated as a team to come up with some of our ideas and researched industry trends for programming during the COVID-19 pandemic.â
Care home resident Elsie Thomas was given a special visit by her family through a window during her 100th birthday. Elsie, who lived locally for over 70 years, spent her day dressing up, unwrapping presents, and taking video calls from several family members and friends. She kept a busy lifestyle in Kings Langley, as growing up she worked in the village shop and was an active member of All Saints Church and the WI. In her pastime when she was younger, she could be seen on her bike cycling up and down the village hill. Friars Mead, a residential care home in Kings Langley, put all their efforts in to make the day extra special and enjoyable despite lockdown restrictions.
