WASHINGTON (ABC) Only an hour after announcing increased inauguration security, Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf announces he will be stepping down, according to an email sent to his department staffers.
In the email, Wolf says his resignation is effective by 11:59 p.m. Monday, Jan. 11. Wolf attributes this decision to Wednesday’s D.C. riots and “the ongoing and meritless court rulings regarding the validity of my authority as Acting Secretary.”
Following his resignation, FEMA Administrator Pete Gaynor temporarily fill the position.
Closing out the letter, Wolf says the Homeland Department has and will continue to be an inspiration for him.
