Mar 02, 2021 06:08:09 PM New Zealand and Fiji held virtual high level talks today which centered on the effects of COVID-19 on the economy and respective health responses, global and regional challenges, development and security cooperation. Fiji’s Permanent Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister and Acting Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Yogesh Karan and the New Zealand Secretary of Foreign Affairs and Trade Chris Seed presided over the discussions. The meeting was attended by senior officials of the Fijian Government and the New Zealand government and representatives of the New Zealand High Commission in Suva and Fiji High Commission in Wellington.

New Zealand has committed to supporting Fiji over the next three years in a variety of fields.
This includes strengthening governance, democracy and values; supporting social well-being, particularly for those most vulnerable; developing a stronger and more resilient economy; and committing to ongoing security cooperation, including through police and defence partnerships.
A virtual high-level discussion between Fiji and New Zealand was held yesterday.
Fiji was represented at the meeting by the Permanent Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister and Acting Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Yogesh Karan, Permanent Secretary for Health Doctor James Fong, Permanent Secretary for Trade Shaheen Ali and Permanent Secretary for Defence and National Security Manasa Lesuma.
PS KARAN RECEIVES FAREWELL COURTESY CALL

Permanent Secretary, Office of the Prime Minister, Immigration and Sugar Industry and Acting Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Yogesh Karan today received a farewell courtesy call from the outgoing Head of Delegation for International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Country Cluster Delegation In The Pacific, Ms. Kathryn Clarkson, as her 5 years term concludes this month.
During a meeting held at the Office of the Prime Minister, PS Karan thanked Ms. Clarkson for her leadership role in advancing the partnership between IFRC and Fiji.
On the aspects of IFRC’s role in Humanitarian support, PS Karan thanked IFRC and International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for working collaboratively to mobilise assistance in communities affected by TC Yasa and TC Ana. The work undertaken by the Fiji Red Cross emergency response team in this regard was also acknowledged.
