SEVERAL neighbourhoods around Brighton and Hove are nearly Covid free as infection rates continue to drop. The number of positive Covid tests recorded in the city has fallen significantly since the introduction of the third national lockdown. Brighton and Hove has gone from recording more than 2,200 new cases in the week leading up to January 8 to just 78 new cases in the latest complete figures - covering the seven days leading up to March 11. This means the city s weekly coronavirus rate has plummeted from 771 new cases per 100,000 residents to 26.8 in just two months. Areas across Brighton and Hove recorded much higher coronavirus rates in January, as shown in this map
Calcot North and Little Heath recorded three cases and Thatcham North East recorded three. There were three in Thatcham West, another three in Kintbury and Boxford and three in Newbury Wash Common. Every other area of West Berkshire recorded fewer than three confirmed cases. Public Health England states: “For smaller areas with fewer than three cases, we do not show data. This is to protect individuals’ identities.” West Berkshire’s infection rate peaked at 607.8 cases per 100,000 people when the third national lockdown was announced on January 4, but it has been falling since then. By March 10, the infection rate had reached 29 cases per 100,000 people.
