Iranian Minister of Health Saeed Namaki announced that the staff of Iranian intensive care units in 635 hospitals will be administered the COVID-19 vaccine simultaneously. Namaki then introduced his son and said that he would become the first Iranian to receive the vaccine on live TV, in an attempt to dispel doubts about the Russian vaccine s safety. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani gave the sign for the rollout to begin, and Namaki s son was administered the vaccine live on IRINN (Iran) on February 9, 2021.
Issue 273 of the Islamic State's (ISIS) weekly newspaper included an editorial defending the group's position against groups it deemed to be apostates and polytheists, and refuted claims made by rival jihadi groups that the implementation of shari'a can be postponed until the Muslim ummah is united and empowered.
