This year, the Southern Maryland Folklife Summer Workshops will maintain a hybrid approach with both virtual and in-person offerings. The latter will adhere to the State of Maryland’s guidelines, including face coverings and social distancing. In person workshops will take place at the Jamie L. Roberts Stadium, River Center, Goodpaster Hall and Montgomery Hall on the St. Mary’s College campus, along with Trinity Church Parish Hall.
The summer workshops will be the backbone of the newly formed Southern Maryland Folklife Center, which is part of the Maryland State Arts Council’s (MSAC) Folklife Network. This summer’s event is funded by the MSAC’s “Maryland Traditions” program.

It is with great sadness that I learned of University President Thomas LeBlanc’s decision to retire from his position at the end of the 2021–22 academic year. At the beginning of his presidency, there was a palpable excitement that he would build on the upward trajectory of excellence left to him by the administrations of predecessors Stephen Joel Trachtenberg and Steven Knapp. LeBlanc was provided by the presidential search committee with a detailed analysis which defined a series of major historical challenges that had prevented GW from joining the top tier academic institutions of the nation and limited the future trajectory of the institution.

JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Hudson County Community College (HCCC) Board of Trustees recently approved the appointment of Yeurys Pujols as the College’s inaugural Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI). The appointment will be effective July 1, 2021.
HCCC President Dr. Chris Reber recommended the appointment, in consultation with the Board of Trustees Executive Committee, based on Mr. Pujols’ leadership experience; support of the College’s nationally distinctive diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives; and feedback from many members of the College community.
