Mid-Barataria sediment diversion project up for comment March 8, 2021, by Zlatan Hrvacevic The single largest ecosystem restoration project in U.S. history reached a significant milestone last week when the Army Corps released the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion. Before the DEIS, the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority of Louisiana (CPRA) applied to USACE for permits and permission to construct, maintain and operate the Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion project on the west bank of the Mississippi River in Plaquemines Parish. This Louisiana Coastal Master Plan project will reconnect the Mississippi River to adjacent wetlands to build and maintain tens of thousands of acres of land in the Barataria Basin, which is experiencing one of the highest rates of land loss on the planet.
