Starr County Health Authority Dr. Falcon and Starr County Judge Eloy Vera will hold a virtual press conference Wednesday morning regarding their latest COVID-19 vaccination efforts.

Rio Grande City held a virtual town hall meeting on Tuesday to discuss Gov. Greg Abbott s most recent executive orders, ongoing COVID-19 public health recommendations and how the changes will impact business.
During the meeting, city leaders discussed an executive order allowing business owners to make the call on whether customers are required to wear masks in their establishment. We can rebuild our economy, while at the same time keep our community safe, Rio Grande City Mayor Joel Villareal said. These two concepts are not mutually exclusive.

The number of positive coronavirus cases in Starr County is on the rise. According to Starr County Health Authority Dr. Antonio Falcon, positive cases have nearly doubled in a week. We have a report of our cases from Dec. 21 through Dec. 28, Dr. Falcon said during a press conference. There were 325 positive cases.
The county began vaccinating people for the coronavirus last week, when the first shipments of the Moderna vaccine arrived.
Dr. Flacon said the county is expecting an additional 400 doses from the state but the date of their arrival is unknown.
