There have been better and worse versions of Tomorrowland. But none have ever really worked, and Walt Disney himself knew it from the start.
Tomorrowland was a last-minute addition. Disney had grand visions but not unlimited funds, and many ideas went by the wayside during the planning and construction of Disneyland. Tomorrowland was always in limbo. With Disneyland and Disney California Adventure reopening April 30 and ticket sales starting next week, prospective park visitors are wondering what to expect there. COVID-19 safety protocols will represent the biggest changes, and not all rides and attractions will be available.

I don t know if you know this, but theme park fans can get sort of obsessive. The mere fact that something like annual passes exist shows that some people take theme parks very seriously. They ll get to know their favorite parks, attractions and even food on an intimate basis. To be sure, there s a lot to be passionate about at a place like Walt Disney World, whether it s whichever roller coaster is your favorite, which nighttime spectacular is the best or why whatever the most recent ride to be replaced was actually the best ride, and how dare they! In the gardens and lobby of the Hollywood Tower Hotel, time has stood still since that fateful night of Oct. 31, 1939, when a mysterious lightning bolt struck the façade and swiftly pushed passengers from one of the elevators to an uncertain destiny. The various objects present in the hall are still in the places they occupied at the time of the strike, hastily abandoned by their owners. As for the music, it still resounds, like an echo of the past, as if it had never stopped.
How the I m Going to Disney World Super Bowl Ad Started

Disney will not host its traditional post-game Super Bowl victory parade at Walt Disney World or Disneyland this year, due to the pandemic. But the company is still planning to film its I m Going to Disney World! TV commercial featuring one of the stars of the game, immediately after their big win. Michael Eisner and [his wife] Jane were having dinner at the Plaza Inn on the night that they opened Star Tours, and they were hosting Dick Rutan and Jeana Yeager, who d just flown around the world in that small plane. Jane Eisner said, My gosh, you folks have flown around the world nonstop, what are you going to do next? And [Jeana] said, we re going to Disneyland! Jane turned to Michael and said, That s a good phrase, remember it.
