CASPER, Wyo Natrona County School District Treasurer Dave Applegate said Monday said he’s concerned some lawmakers aren’t giving the proper credit to the state’s education system and the strong metrics posted by students.
The Wyoming Legislature is considering a yearly $100 million cut to state schools this session, and Governor Mark Gordon has said the school funding model is unsustainable given the state’s projected $300 million per year budget shortfall moving forward.
While watching a Senate Education Committee meeting, Applegate said he was “quite disappointed with one senator’s comments regarding the Wyoming education system and the idea that maybe we’re not getting what we pay for.”

Two Natrona County High Schools Will Have Common Schedule
The schedules of the two largest high schools in the Natrona County School District will be aligned beginning either this fall or by the 2022 school year.
The district s board of trustees voted to approve the common high school schedule at its meeting Monday.
The high schools are Kelly Walsh High School, Natrona County High School.
After a motion by trustee Dave Applegate, the trustees agreed to not include Midwest School because it is on a four-day schedule.
The recommendation read by trustee Chairman Ray Catellier cited the benefits for students and staff, with the uncertainty of state funding of the district in mind.
