River Valley Community College, like all educational institutions, had a unique year. We shifted classes online and became experts in personal protective equipment. Our in-person classes looked like a science fiction novel with students and faculty adorned in masks, gowns and face shields. Technology kept students and faculty connected even while in different locations. Staff became adept at advising from home.
Despite the challenges, I believe RVCC became an even stronger community partner. While our students, faculty and staff have always been committed and dedicated to our communities, an opportunity for the college to serve as a vaccination site strengthened those ties.

Gov. Chris Sununu says New Hampshire must move quickly to “get ahead of the crisis that is coming to its public university and community college systems.
“Where we are today is where we’ve been for 20 years and it is a dying system,” he said of the current status of the University System of New Hampshire and the Community College System of New Hampshire. “Both of these systems will fail if some sort of significant change isn’t made.” Enrollment continues to decline in both of these systems, Sununu said. We still have two of the most expensive systems in the country.

NEWPORT, N.H. The Sullivan County COVID-19 vaccination site at River Valley Community College in Claremont is closing next week, according to the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services.
Beginning on Thursday, the new site will be the former Dollar Store in the Shaw’s Plaza at 62 John Stark Highway in Newport.
“We continue efforts to move vaccination sites indoors wherever possible, to increase our throughput, allow for easier social distancing and to avoid bad weather,” Jake Leon, a DHHS spokesman, said in an email.
Appointments scheduled for Claremont on April 8 or later will instead take place at the new site in Newport at the same date and time, Leon said.
