The Stay and Spend Scheme should be extended beyond April this year so that consumers and businesses can avail of it later in the year with any easing of restrictions, a Fine Gael Senator has said.
Garret Ahearn, Fine Gael’s Seanad spokesperson on Enterprise and Trade, has called for the Stay and Spend Scheme to be extended to the off-season later this year in order to support the hospitality sector when trading can hopefully resume.
Senator Ahearn said, “Stay and Spend is a tax scheme aimed at consumers to help drive sales in the hospitality sector during the off-season.

Social media giants must ensure they have appropriate safety features in place for children and teenagers using their platforms, a Fine Gael Senator has said.
Micheál Carrigy, who is Fine Gael spokesperson for Art, Media, Sport and Tourism, said social media companies have a responsibility to young users to ensure their privacy and safety, which should be reflected in their terms of use.

Awareness campaign ahead of proposed changes to Electoral Register is crucial

An information campaign to make people aware of changes to the Electoral Register and the steps they should take, will be an important part of any proposed reform, a Fine Gael Senator has said.
John Cummins, member of the Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage, was speaking as pre legislative scrutiny began on the Electoral Reform Bill.
The General Scheme of the Bill seeks to establish a statutory permanent Electoral Commission, modernise the Register of Electors, regulate Online Political Advertising during elections and the Holding of Elections during a Covid-19 type event.
