The year 2020 will go down in history as the year of the COVID-19 pandemic, with many lives lost, lockdowns, school and business closings, economic uncertainty and political divisions. In the midst of it all we found a silver lining as New Jerseyans embraced and enjoyed parks and green spaces.
The past year this state we’re in saw encouraging progress on climate action, clean energy, environmental justice, reductions in plastic pollution, and more preserved open space and farmland.
Parks and open space – It is no secret New Jerseyans love nature and open space as demonstrated by the overwhelming success of every statewide land preservation ballot question in the past 60 years.

WASHINGTON, DC, January 13, 2021 (ENS) – President-elect Joe Biden, who takes office on January 20 at noon, has nominated a team of seasoned environmental leaders to fill his Cabinet in positions that will impact the Earth’s unique places, people, and species, now more vulnerable than ever after the Trump administration. Climate will be a top priority of Biden’s core plan for a “clean energy revolution and environmental justice.”
Biden is aware that on January 20, according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, only nine years will be left to stop the worst consequences of climate change.
Department of Interior Deputy Secretary Katharine MacGregor visited Grand Junction on Monday, where she announced new rules to increase rural access to broadband internet and toured the Bureau of Land Management Grand Junction Air Services facility, which provides aircraft to fight wildfires.
MacGregor began her day touring a broadband site before announcing the changes at the BLM headquarters in Grand Junction. The proposed rule changes are intended to make it easier for the industry to place infrastructure, manage trees, promote public safety and avoid fire hazards.
âHigh-speed internet connectivity is essential for education, economic opportunity, health and public safety â especially as we continue to respond to the challenges of COVID-19,â MacGregor said in a statement. âFacilitating greater broadband access and reducing wildfire risks for the benefit of rural and underserved communities is truly a bipartisan issue, and I hope these common-sense rules are c
