Conservation, Outdoor Groups Call On New Mexico Legislature To Grant Outdoor Recreation Division Budget

ALBUQUERQUE New Mexico Wild and dozens of other conservation and outdoor recreation nonprofit organizations have submitted a letter urging the Senate Finance and House Appropriations and Finance Committees to support the New Mexico Outdoor Recreation Division’s (ORD) special appropriations request of $1.025 million for the Outdoor Equity Fund and $3.22 million for the Great New Mexico Trails Package. ORD has made the appropriations requests as emergency responses to the current public health and economic crises.

Haleakala National Park will have free entry on six days next year.
The entrance fee-free days will be Jan. 18, Martin Luther King Jr. Day; April 17, the first day of National Park Week; Aug. 4, Great American Outdoors Act anniversary; Aug. 25, the National Park Service birthday; Sept. 25, National Public Lands Day; and Nov. 11, Veterans Day.
The fee-free entrance days do not include sunrise reservations or admittance to the park between 3 and 7 a.m. People planning to view the sunrise at the park must make sunrise viewing reservations for $1 in advance at recreation.gov/ticket/facility/253731.
Active-duty military, Veteran and Gold Star Families, and 4th-grade students will continue to have free access to the park. Discounted passes are available for senior citizens.
