Great Rivers United Way asking for help with getting books to young children

Great Rivers United Way asking for help with getting books to young children ONALASKA, Wis. (WXOW) - A new initiative aims to get books into the hands of young children this summer. The goal for the Bucks for Books campaign organized by the Great Rivers United Way is to supply books to 860 local 4K students before the summer break. “Our goal is to expose kids to books at an early age,” said Mary Kay Wolf, Executive Director of Great Rivers United Way in a statement. “Studies have shown the kids who have had an adult reading to them are likely to enter kindergarten knowing more words, being better able to think about cause and effect and are more able to show empathy for others, when compared to students who have not had much experience with books and reading.”

Great Rivers United Way program to Zoom through mobile pay apps

Great Rivers United Way program to Zoom through mobile pay apps February 19, 2021 4:55 PM Mike Tighe ONALASKA, Wis. (WKBT) Great Rivers United Way is promoting another practical way that is in keeping with its mission to work toward the common good with information to explain one of the least common denominators between generations these days. A Zoom Coffee and Conversation from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Feb. 25 also will bridge that generation/tech gap regarding mobile money. “My kids want me to send them money using Venmo. My phone keeps nagging me to sign up for Google Pay. And my Rotary encourages me to use PayPay,” says a tongue-in-cheek exasperated Julie Nelson, Great Rivers’ community engagement coordinator.
