Championship Bound: No. 20 Volleyball Defeats Grand Valley State 3-1 Courtesy: Northern Michigan University Athletics Courtesy: NMU UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – A trip to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament Championship is on the calendar for No. 20 Northern Michigan University volleyball after they picked up a 3-1 win over Grand Valley State University on Saturday in the GLIAC Tournament semifinal. The Wildcats scored the day’s opening point and jumped out to a 5-1 lead behind Lauren Van Remortel assisted kills from Koryn Parmenter and Jacqueline Smith and two service aces from Smith. The Lakers pulled within one at 9-8 and kept things close for a majority of the opening frame.

Lacrosse Picks Up Record-Breaking Win Over Eagles Courtesy: Northern Michigan University Athletics Courtesy: NMU MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University women’s lacrosse set the program record for most wins in a season when they clinched their fifth win of 2021 with a 19-5 win against Ashland University in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Friday tilt. Aleya Speas notched the first goal of the game, assisted by Madeline Bittell,  just 34 seconds into the action. It was the first goal in a 6-0 NMU run. Jessica Daniels was the next to score for the Wildcats, just 20 seconds later. Emily Renfrew put one into the net to up the NMU advantage to 3-0.

Freshman, Coach of the Year Awards Highlight No 20 Volleyball s GLIAC Honors

ABC 10/CW5 Courtesy: Northern Michigan University Athletics Courtesy: NMU BAY CITY, Mich. – No. 20 Northern Michigan University Volleyball took home the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Player of the Year and Coach of the Year awards as well as several All-GLIAC Team honors on the eve of the 2021 GLIAC Tournament opening day. Freshman of the Year: Freshman Jacqueline Smith took home the 2021 GLIAC Freshman of the Year after an impressive campaign in her first year in Marquette. Smith finished the regular season with 193 total kills and averaged 4.02 kills per set.  She led the GLIAC for the majority of the year in kills and kills per set and finished second in both categories. The freshman hailing from Saint Germain, Wis. was named the GLIAC North Player of the Week in early March, the first weekly honor of her career. She also had the kill that won the final match of the season for NMU and secured the GLIAC Regular

Purdue Northwest plans month of homecoming activities

Times Staff Purdue University Northwest’s (PNW) students, faculty and staff have powered through this academic year and are ready to celebrate with homecoming during the month of April. PNW will host a variety of activities from food drives to fireworks displays. “Homecoming has become one of the biggest celebrations of the year at PNW,” said Ashley Gerodimos, executive director of the PNW Alumni Community and University Strategic Events. “It is unique in that activities are held throughout an entire month at both the Westville and Hammond campuses. Purdue Northwest’s Homecoming is traditionally held early in the spring semester; this year we are celebrating in April to take advantage of the milder weather and opportunities to come together safely outside.”
