In Their Footsteps - Virtual Introduction to Backyard Owls   January 28, 2021 Lewis and Clark National Historical Park, Fort Clatsop has announced the next virtual “In Their Footsteps” free speaker series event. An “Introduction to Backyard Owls” with Barbara Linnett will be on http://www.youtube.com/user/Lewisandclarknhp at 1:00 p.m. Pacific Time, Sunday, February 14. This presentation is part of the February 12-15 worldwide Great Backyard Bird Count activities. Owls are amazing birds. Owls are found in urban, suburban, rural and forested areas of the world and that includes Clatsop County and the many varied habitats of Oregon and Washington. There is much to know and learn about these unique birds that share our landscape.

Great Backyard Bird Count Event Coming Up

WBGZ Radio 1/27/2021 | By Mark Ellebracht - WBGZ Radio Bird watchers and even amateur outdoor enthusiasts can take part in the Great Backyard Bird Count next month.  The National Great Rivers Research and Education Center invites members of the community to take part in project which is an annual global event designed to better understand bird populations and their annual migrations.   The event will be held on NGRREC’s (pronounced IN-GRECK’s) green roof from 1-5 p.m., Friday, Feb. 12.  The center sits just downstream from the Mel Price Locks and Dam, along the Mississippi River.  The roof provides great views of the river, as well as a safe place to be socially distanced. GODFREY The National Great Rivers Research and Education Center is inviting people to take part in “The Great Backyard Bird Count,” an annual global event designed to better understand global bird populations and their annual migrations. The event is planned on NGRREC’s green roof 1-5 p.m., Friday, Feb. 12. The building’s interior will remain closed. Last year, 250,000 participants from around the world identified nearly 7,000 bird species as part of the program. “Visitors will have the chance to work with NGRREC staff to identify and count bird species,” Environmental Educator Jen Young said. “Staff will keep track of this information and submit the bird list at the end of the event.”
