Demand for A&E at GWH is increasing | This Is Wiltshire

NHS England figures show 10,828 patients visited A&E at GWH in June. That was a rise of five per cent on the 10,291 visits recorded during May, and 54 per cent more than the 7,051 patients seen in June 2020. The figures show attendances were below the levels seen before the coronavirus pandemic – in June 2019, there were 12,080 visits to A&E at GWH. The majority of attendances last month were via major A&E departments – those with full resuscitation equipment and 24-hour consultant-led care – while 47 per cent were via minor injury units. Across England, A&E departments received 2.2 million visits last month. That was an increase of 4 per cent compared to May, and 53 percent more than the 1.4 million seen during June 2020 – a reflection of lower-than-usual numbers for that month as more people avoided hospitals during the early days of the pandemic.

Signing of Armed Forces Covenant shows Swindon council s commitment to supporting veterans

DIGNITARIES from Swindon and Wiltshire signed a commitment to supporting armed forces personnel and their families around the borough. Representatives from the council, army, health bodies and education gathered in the rose garden outside the local authority s Euclid Street offices to sign the Armed Forces Covenant. Mayor Garry Perkins introduced and closed the short ceremony while dressed in full mayoral garb. He said: This is not just a piece of paper, it s a way of showing respect for our armed forces. It s a very important day for Swindon, Lord-Lieutenant of Wiltshire Sarah Troughton said: Swindon has a long track record with the armed forces, going back to 1914 when 10 blasts from the Swindon Works hooter signalled the start of the war.
