Advisory council established for Cascade County judge vacancy

Greg Gianforte has announced an advisory council made up of local city and county officials to assist in identifying and reviewing qualified candidates to fill the Eighth Judicial District court judge vacancy.  This comes in the wake of the Montana State Senate voting against the confirmation of Michele Levine as a Cascade County District Judge in April. It was the first time in 50 years the Senate has declined to confirm an interim judge. Members of the council include prominent members of the community, including former Great Falls Police Chief David Bowen and former judge for the Eighth Judicial District Greg Pinski, who left the bench in December and whose vacancy Levine filled. Gianforte will announce his appointment in July, according to the release. Whoever is selected will be required to run for election in the 2022 election. 

Great Falls City Commission approves TIF funds for proposed Newberry Concert Hall

View Comments Great Falls City Commissioners moved to approve Downtown Urban Renewal District tax increment financing (TIF) funds for construction surrounding the Newberry Event & Concert Hall on Central Avenue during their Tuesday night meeting.  The commission approved Resolution 10398, which approved $9,100 in TIF funds for the purpose of paying for the construction of temporary sidewalk and reconstruction of a public sidewalk and curb along Central Avenue bordering the subject property at 420 Central Avenue. Great Falls school board candidate 2021: Nathan Reiff

Election day is set for Tuesday, May 4.  There are eight candidates  vying for the school board position being vacated by current Trustee Theresa Schreiner. Schreiner s three year term expires this year and she is not seeking reelection. The community members who have filed their candidacy with the Cascade County Elections office are Russell Herring, Scott Jablonski, Kevin Leatherbarrow, Nathan Reiff, Tucker Schleining, Dustin Shoemake, Genevieve Smyth and Marlee Sunchild. Ballots must be received by the Cascade County Elections Office by election day, Tuesday, May 4 at 8 p.m.  The Tribune asked all school board candidates to complete a questionnaire for the upcoming election. The owners shared their vision for the business this week, and economic development officials believe it could be a catalyst for the downtown area - and Great Falls overall. “Expect national touring acts in here on a weekly basis, rocking the house, having awesome shows every single week,” said Scott Reasoner, one of the five partners in the project. In addition to concerts, the venue will be open for large events such as weddings and other social gatherings.
